Hydro-coat plate

(forgot to write my notes about the hydro-coat plate)

Took the photograph in Folkstone.
Made the positive at Hexio, asked for a super course stochastic grain so instead of made of dots the image is made of tiny 'worms', it looks more 'natural' .

Process:

Exposed the plate for 30 units.
After exposing, to remove the coating that has not been hardened by the light, placed the plate in warm water with sodium bicarbonate (1 full spoon (heaped) for 2 liters of water) - kept moving the tray and turning it.
Dried it on the fan.
Expose it again to harden the emulsion - 40 units.
Descumed it and etched it . Always checking every 10 seconds or so it ended up etching for around 50 seconds.

Inking&Printing:

Applied ink with the roller wipe it with tissue. No scrim at all. Quite easy except for the occasional tiny devils ball (as Brian calls them)- tiny bits of dust? - that needs to be wiped out carefully. Keep changing tissue frequently. First print was a success.

I had planned to work on the plate or cutting it into a round shape. But it came out so beautiful i left it as it was.
